Please join us at READ Books where Amber Frid-Jimenez will present La Lucha Sin Fin, published by the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Frid-Jimenez’s new book investigates the aesthetics of charisma and its persuasive technologies.

From the megaphone, to the telephone, to television, to the web, virtually every technological advance has altered the transmission of persuasion. The book explores the changing role of charisma as it is decoupled from physical presence and finds its way into the mediated channels of the Internet. The book includes an eclectic set of narratives and original artworks produced from case studies of the Anonymous movement, to studies on phonology and revolutionary movements in Latin America. Contributors to the book include Muni Figueres, Mladen Dolar, Gabriella Coleman, Robert Kleyn, Daniel Lundqvist, Joshua Dubler, Constantino Urcuyo, Ben Dalton and Dubravka Sekulic.

Amber Frid-Jimenez’s work explores the role of design and technology in the formation of communities under unstable conditions, borrowing strategies of inquiry from scientific and socio-linguistic fields to produce installations and online platforms. She has shown her work internationally at the Jan van Eyck Academie (NL), the MIT Program for Art, Culture and Technology (US), Casco Office for Art Design and Theory (NL), Maison Europeenne de la Photographie (FR), FACT (UK), the Contemporary Art Gallery (CA), Ars Electronica (AT), Media Lab Prado (SP), the MIT Media Laboratory, among others. Frid-Jimenez is an associate professor at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design and the National Academy of Art and Design in Bergen, Norway.
