Opening Reception: Tuesday June 2, 2015 at 7:30pm

The Charles H. Scott Gallery is pleased to present Drawings, a solo exhibition by distinguished Canadian artist Garry Neill Kennedy.

The exhibition features an extensive collection of nearly 1600 pieces, made up of notes, drawings and doodles begun during the artist's twenty-three year tenure as president of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. The exhibition presents an accumulation of ten years worth of plans, from the late 1970s to the late 1980s, for future art works and installations, including exhibitions that occurred and ones that never transpired. These artist sketches are situated together with draft letters to faculty, outlines for meeting agendas and doodles documenting dreaming and boredom alongside NSCAD business.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication made up of three volumes DRAWINGS 1, 2, and 3, co-published by Art Metropole, Publication Studio Vancouver and Emily Carr University Press.

Kennedy recently exhibited his work at The National Gallery of Canada, The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Portikus in Frankfurt am Main, Diaz Contemporary in Toronto, Or Gallery, and The Apartment in Vancouver. His recent publications include The Last Art College: Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, 1968 -1978, published by MIT Press and a catalogue raisonné titled Garry Neill Kennedy: Printed Matter 1971-2009, published by the Library and Archives of the National Gallery of Canada. In 2003 he was a recipient of the Order of Canada and in 2004, the Governor General's Award in the Visual Arts and Media. Kennedy taught at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design for over forty years, serving as president from 1967 - 1990. He has also been a visiting professor at California Institute of the Arts and École des Beaux Arts, Paris, Emily Carr University, and University of British Columbia.
