The Charles H. Scott Gallery is pleased to present Starmaker, an exhibition of new work by UK artists Heather & Ivan Morison. Incorporating a variety of media, the Morison’s explore the world through methods of collection, archiving and personal narrative. The complex experience of travel and the heightened perception of the alien are also significant themes in their work. Most recently they have been combining these interests with an exploration of the science fiction genre and the title of the exhibition, Starmaker, is taken from a science fiction novel by Olaf Stapleton written in 1937 in which a man attempts through space and time-travel to learn everything about everything.
The exhibition features a large scale slide work, indoor and outdoor sound pieces, as well as text and sculptural works. The work includes a diverse thematic range from greyhound racing in Birmingham to New Zealand Fungi to Swedish Christmas songs. Starmaker is Heather & Ivan Morison’s first solo exhibition in Canada. They have an impressive international exhibition record and will be featured in the British Art Show 6 opening this month at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead.
