Speaker Series: Maxwell Stephens & Hadley Howes

Artist Talk

Maxwell Stephens, Hadley Howes

October 12, 2004, 12:15 PM

Room 328, Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design

BIOGRAPHIES

Vancouver artists Hadley Howes and Maxwell Stephens have been working collaboratively since 1997. Their work is centred on an intense investigation into collaboration, both within the production of work and in its dissemination. In recent years, their focus has been on a series entitled the décor projects in which they collaborate with curators and collectors, designing conceptual redecorations for their homes and photographing the resulting installations. Each project is an experiment in relationships between subjects and spaces of cultural production, and the suspension of artistic process between the figures of artist and spectator. They have exhibited internationally and received their Masters of Art in Communications from the European Graduate School in Switzerland.

Speaker Series

The Speaker Series (2000–2006) was a programme of visiting artist talks and lectures organized by Charles H. Scott Gallery in conjunction with the Art Now course at ECIAD. The programme was initiated by ECIAD faculty Ian Wallace in the 1970’s as a series of lunchtime artist talks. Wallace ran the programme until 1998.
