Speaker Series: Heather and Ivan Morison

Artist Talk

Heather Morison, Ivan Morison

November 23, 2004, 12:15 PM

Room 328, Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design

Biographies

Artists and broadcasters Heather Morison and Ivan Morison observe and collect the things they come into contact with, embracing chance encounters and seeking out subjects which are on the edge of daily life. Java Sparrows, fungi, ice fishing and floristry are but a few of these subjects. In Chinese Arboretum, the artists demonstrated the compulsion of fanatics, travelling thousands of miles to record a single tree, while Divine Vessel, their science fiction novel, is the outcome of the performative self-imposed isolation of a one month sea voyage from China to New Zealand. The Morison’s work was seen in the group exhibition Going a Journey at Charles H. Scott Gallery in 2003.

Speaker series

The Speaker Series (2000–2006) was a programme of visiting artist talks and lectures organized by Charles H. Scott Gallery in conjunction with the Art Now course at ECIAD. The programme was initiated by ECIAD faculty Ian Wallace in the 1970’s as a series of lunchtime artist talks. Wallace ran the programme until 1998.
