The Attic Project

Eric Metcalfe

Curated by Joan Stebbins and Susan Edelstein

June 12–September 1, 2002
The Charles H. Scott Gallery is pleased to present the work of renowned Vancouver artist Eric Metcalfe in his first solo exhibition in Vancouver since 1992. His latest work, The Attic Project, is an installation consisting of hand-painted vessels inspired by pottery of the Athenian period, gouache drawings, large-scale wall drawings and a mural painted in situ. Using a variation on his signature camouflage spots, the installation sets up a dialogue between the object as art and the object as functional receptacle, while transforming the gallery into a junction between the ancient and the modern.
The Attic Project is curated and toured by Joan Stebbins – Southern Alberta Art Gallery and Susan Edelstein – Kamloops Art Gallery. We gratefully acknowledge the financial assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts.
