Charles H. Scott Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of work by Finnish artist Eija-Lisa Ahtila. The internationally acclaimed film and video artist has exhibited her work in numerous prestigious exhibitions and film festivals. Consolation Service, a work that will be featured in the exhibition at Charles H. Scott Gallery received an Honourable Mention at the Venice Biennale in 1999. Most recently, Ahtila won the 50,000 Euro (approx. 65,000 Cdn), Vincent Van Gogh Bi-annual Award for Contemporary Art in Europe.
Consolation Service is a split screen film projection that deals with personal and social rituals as played out in the breakdown of a young couple’s relationship. It explores the way that narratives are constructed in filmic language, combining documentary realism with cinematic fantasy. Assistant Series, photographic works relating to the making of Consolation Service will also be included in the exhibition.

Biographies
International acclaimed film and video artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila has shown her work in numerous prestigious exhibitions and film festivals. She is the recipient of an Honourable Mention at the Venice Biennale in 1999 and, most recently, won the 50,000 Euro Vincent Van Gogh Bi-annual Award for Contemporary art in Europe.
