Biographies
In addition to exhibiting throughout Canada, Eric Metcalfe has shown in New York, Tokyo, Germany (Documenta 8), England, France and Australia. He has been working since the sixties and has made significant and innovative contributions to the visual arts in Vancouver. He co-founded the Western Front in 1973. It quickly became an internationally respected artist run centre, known for conceptual art, performance and video with strong intellectual ties to the Fluxus movement. Metcalfe works in a variety of media including performance, video, drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture. He has received numerous awards throughout his career including: a Governor-General’s Citation and Medal, the VIVA Special Donor Award and the Canada Council for the Arts Victor Martyn Lynch-Staunton Award for special achievements and excellence in the visual arts.
