Biographies

Eugenio Valdes is a freelance critic and curator from Cuba. He has worked on a number of international projects including the Johannesburg Biennale in 1995 and Utopian Territories: New Art from Cuba, shown in Vancouver in 1997. Valdes Figueroa is part of RAIN, an international collective of artists, architects and curators creating public projects in a number of cities around the world including Los Angeles, Vienna and Havana. Their most recent project, Supermover is currently part of Fotofest 2002 in Houston. Supermover consists of 24 videos by international artists screened in/from vans and trucks in downtown Houston. In addition to his curatorial work, Valdes Figueroa has contributed essays to a number of publications including Art Cuba published by Abrams.

SPEAKER SERIES

The Speaker Series (1989–2006) was a programme of visiting artist talks and lectures. From 2000–2006, talks were co-organized with the Art Now course at ECIAD.
