Speaker Series: Kaz Oshiro

Los Angeles-based artist Kaz Oshiro was born in Okinawa, Japan and received his MFA from California State University. Oshiro transforms paint and canvas into domestic and utilitarian objects that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture, illusion and function. Making flawless trompe l’oeil replicas of objects such as Marshall and Peavey amps, fast food trash receptacles, microwaves and washing machines, Oshiro at the same time reveals their underlying structures and means of production. His work has been shown in group exhibitions such as Thing: New Sculpture from Los Angeles at UCLA Hammer Museum and Deaf: From the Audible to the Visible at Galerie Frank Elbaz, Paris. Solo exhibitions include Room Acoustics at the Tokyo Hipsters Club, Inart Gallery, Tokyo and Drone at the Rosamund Felsen Gallery, Santa Monica.
