Speaker Series: Kota Ezawa

San Francisco based artist Kota Ezawa was born in Cologne, Germany. He studied at the Düsseldorf Kunstakademie, the San Francisco Art Institute and Stanford University. He participated in the 2004 Shanghai Biennial, Seeing Double at the Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh and I still believe in miracles at the Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, France. From November 3, 2005–February 5, 2006 he will have a solo show at Matrix, Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT. Working in film and animation, Ezawa draws upon iconic imagery of the modern-era to create simplified renderings that comment on the influence of television, film and photography in shaping collective experience. Ezawa’s short animated film, The Simpson Verdict was recently shown at the Vancouver Art Gallery as part of the Baja to Vancouver exhibition. Ezawa is represented by Murray Guy Gallery in New York where his solo exhibition Lennon Sontag Beuys continues to October 15, 2005.

The Speaker Series (2000–2006) was a programme of visiting artist talks and lectures organized by Charles H. Scott Gallery in conjunction with the Art Now course at ECIAD. The programme was initiated by ECIAD faculty Ian Wallace in the 1970’s as a series of lunchtime artist talks. Wallace ran the programme until 1998.
