Biographies

Michèle Faguet is the new Director/Curator of the Or Gallery. Faguet received her MA in art history from Columbia University. From 1999 to 2001 she was the director of La Panadería, an artist-run space in Mexico City. In 2002 Faguet founded Espacio La Rebeca an independent, non-profit space in Bogotá, Columbia. During her three year tenure, she curated projects such as The World Won’t Listen, a Smiths Karaoke machine created by U.K. based artist Phil Collins; All about George, an international group exhibition about her dog; and Breakdance Season, a breakdance championship and week long workshop co-organized with artist Carolina Caycedo and veteran breakdancers Eduardo Peña and DJ Fresh. She also curated projects outside of La Rebeca including, FREEWAVES: Latin America, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and Sin título: había una vez, Giovanni Vargas, Alliance Française, Bogotá. Faguet has published essays in Arts Atlantic, Parachute, and Luna Córnea and has written and lectured about artist-run spaces both in a Latin American and international context.

Speaker Series

The Speaker Series (2000–2006) was a programme of visiting artist talks and lectures organized by Charles H. Scott Gallery in conjunction with the Art Now course at ECIAD. The programme was initiated by ECIAD faculty Ian Wallace in the 1970’s as a series of lunchtime artist talks. Wallace ran the programme until 1998.
