Speaker Series: Ruben Ortiz Torres

Ruben Ortiz Torres is a Mexican artist now based in Los Angeles. He employs a diverse array of artistic practices including photography, video, film, installation, painting and performance to explore areas of cultural intersection and interrelations between Mexico and the US. Ortiz Torres employs icons and emblems from both popular culture and gangster magazines as well as mainstream cartoons and extraterrestrials. He has shown in numerous exhibitions including Ultrabaroque: Aspects of Post Latin American Art which is currently touring North America. His films and videos have also been included in numerous international film and video festivals.

The Speaker Series (1989–2006) was a programme of visiting artist talks and lectures. From 2000–2006, talks were co-organized with the Art Now course at ECIAD.
