Co-organized by the Yokohama Civic Art Gallery and Charles H. Scott Gallery
Charles H. Scott Gallery will present an exhibition of twelve women artists from Yokohama, Japan. Organized by the Yokohama Citizens Gallery, the exhibition is in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Vancouver and Yokohama.
The twelve artists, all whom reside in Yokohama, represent the diversity of art production currently being done in Japan. The painting, drawing and sculpture included in the exhibition, provide a glimpse into the concerns, interests and techniques of contemporary Japanese artists. Through the variety of media and subject matter from large scale abstract paintings, drawing and mixed media, sculptures of ceramic and glass, the work expresses the influences of both the cultural history of Japan and an awareness of international trends in art production.
The exhibition will open up a communication between the artists and citizens of both cities and facilitate a greater awareness of the similarities and differences in our experiences as artists and viewers of art.
The public is invited to the opening reception of the exhibition on November 22 at 7:00 pm. A delegation of officials and artists from Yokohama will be in attendance.
